MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM

Medical & Surgical Colleagues

We cannot overstate how important the people we work with are to your care, the trusted colleagues who help us understand you, from the laboratory, imaging and other disciplines all contribute to your care and your safety. When you come to LondonSwissMedical you are coming to a team who understand and trust each other, and that trust is based on them knowing their fields and their limitations, knowing when to stop investigating as much as when to dig deeper, knowing that you are the focus of our care; Your Health is Our Concern.

Most of our network of colleagues is  at King's College Hospital, and Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital, but it includes colleagues across London and beyond; this team can help us consider your care more thoroughly. It includes our excellent diagnostic imaging teams at King's, The Shard and at 25 Harley Street; our phlebotomy teams and laboratory staff who will make sure your blood tests are taken, analysed and reported appropriately. For patients needing specialised endocrinology tests we can do these at King's in clinic, or on the Planned Investigation Unit (these are both only taking very few patients at present), or in our investigation suite at The Shard, or Diagnostic Centre at 25 Harley Street.

To help ensure you get the best care we may discuss your case, if appropriate, within our multidisciplinary team. This includes Miss Shree Datta and Mr Haitham Hamoda in gynaecology and fertility medicine, Dr Tanya Basu, Dr Ginny Hubbard and Miss Sweta Rai in dermatology, Professor Michael Heneghan, Dr Deepak Joshi and Professor William Alazawi in liver medicine/ hepatology, Dr Satish Jayawardene in nephrology, Drs Sukh Chatu and Guy Chung-Faye in gastroenterology (including diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy), Mr Krishna Menon in `

hepatobiliary surgery, Drs Ian Webb and Jonathan Byrne in general and interventional cardiology and on Harley Street Dr Rasha Al-Lamee; at King's and The Wellington Hospitals, Dr Geroge Amin-Youssef for heart failure and complex echocardiography;  Drs Rob WeeksEli Silber, Tom Britton and Fiona Norwood in neurology.

For general medicine in more elderly patients, cognitive assessments, and those with movement disorders (including Parkinson's disease, parkinson's mimics, restless legs and tremors), cerebrovascular disease, falls, continence problems I work with and trust the opinions of my close clinical colleagues Dr Prashanth Reddy, he is a specialist Neurogeriatrician who also works our Acute Health and Ageing Ward and Frailty Units here at King's, alongside his work in The Guthrie Clinic and London Bridge Hospitals, or Dr Rob Weeks at the BMI Sloane in Beckenham, The Guthrie Clinic at King's or on Harley Street.

Sleep Disorders
Obstructive Sleep Apnoea & Obesity Hypoventialation

These disorders are very common, as are insomnia, nightmares, unrestful sleep and sleep walking; for my patients I recommend Dr Alanna Hare who also works at The Royal Brompton Hospital.

Dietician

Ms Gabby Ramlan is an Advanced Diabetes Specialist Dietician at the North Middlesex Hospital, she and I have worked together helping patients for over 12 years now, and we continue to do so because I think she is the best at what she does for our patients. She will arrange consultations in London by arrangement. To contact her please ask a question via the website in the first instance.

  • If you need help managing diabetes, improving your overall sugar control and HbA1c, avoiding hypoglycaemia; are worried about gaining weight on insulin or sulfonylureas (for example gliclazide, glipizide or glibenclamide), want to reduce the gastrointestinal side effects of metformin then you ought to see a dietician.

  • If you are overweight, or have obesity and are considering any specialist therapy then I cannot recommend seeing a specialist dietician enough. Their advice and support will be critical to making your treatment a success.

  • If you want to consider orlistat or GLP-1 agonist (exenatide/ Saxenda) treatment to help support weight loss a dietcian will help make the treatment work for you.

  • If you are considering weight reducing surgery you are likely to need a dietician.

  • If you are underweight, and or are worried about your body weight or nutrition, that might be affecting your menstruation, libido or erections, or your skeletal health and risk of osteopaenia and osteoporosis then you would benefit from seeing a dietician

Thyroid Ultrasonography

I always recommend colleagues who are exceptional at thyroid ultrasonography, Dr Rose Ngu and The Shard, Dr Simon Morley at 25 Harley Street and Professor Paul Sidhu at King's are the people I trust and work most closely with.

Radio-frequency Ablation

For suitable nodules Dr Morely, at 25 Harley Street can consider radio-frequency ablation for thyroid nodules; this will almost always require a consultation with a thyroid specialist, such as Dr Kelly, beforehand.

Thyroid Scintigraphy

For patients in South East London Dr Nicola Mulholland at The Shard and King's is an excellent, sensible colleague able to help make sense of the thyroid appearance and function, and this is invaluable in diagnosing de Quervain's thyroiditis and toxic nodules, to ensure patients get the right treatment.

Thyroid Surgery

It is essential for thyroid surgery to choose a surgeon with excellent results with regard to protecting the laryngeal nerves and the parathyroid glands, as well as curing the patient of their primary problem. For my patients I work with Mr Jonathan Hubbard at The London Bridge Hospital, and in our NHS Thyroid Cancer MDT at King's, Professor Fausto Palazzo at The Cromwell Hospital also from Imperial Healthcare NHS Trust and Professor Gus Alusi at 25 Harley Street/ Phoenix Hospital.

Dr Kelly is one of the endocrinologists within the thyroid and head and neck multidisciplinary teams at both London Bridge and The Phoenix Hospitals.
